Really the two practices work interchangeably to develop our minds, body and spirit. Although the Subtle mind practice gives an opportunity to observe how the mind works with mental movements (Dacher, 2006).
The loving-kindness practice seems to focus on healing through forgiveness and loving kindness.
Mental and physical wellness are similar in that our nervous system is our mobile messenger and we it goes back and forth from mind to body and back again. So the correlation between the two is similar and can help us teach our mind to achieve goals physically as well.
Using Yoga for me is a mind-body practice that I try and use daily, for relaxation and to bring myself more in touch with mind/body. It is relaxing and after words I feel stretched, relaxed, calm, and at peace.

Love the photo you put in here. I that everyone should meditate and this world would me even more lovely! I have done yoga a few times now, I sometimes have a hard time controlling my mind and letting go, but I'll get there.
ReplyDeleteAngela,
ReplyDeleteThanks! I thought adding a photo might make it fun! I too have a hard time letting go of my thoughts and just relaxing. I notice I have to have quiet and no distractions in order to do this, in other words my kids and husband have to be out of the house! ha.

Angulala, I also love your pictures I would like to post some too but I haven't had time to figure out how to do it, lol. It would probably be of those things that make me happy. I had a more difficult time with the Loving-Kindness and wasn't able to get into it like it was intended. I wish I had more time to do it again. I really enjoyed the subtle mind, it allowed me to relax and actually visualize my thoughts floating past with no attachments. I have a hard time letting my mind relax and have been accused of having ADHD, lol. I also see how the spiritual aspect of our beings cannot be ignored and we need to address that part of us in order to have balance. I have been going though a spiritual boot camp and my faith is being tested but I have to say that as it is being tested it is also being strengthened, which I am grateful for. Christina
ReplyDeleteYoga can work in the same way that these exercises do. It allows you to slow down and just be with your thoughts and body. Meditation can be harder for some people because sitting still is a difficult thing to do, especially if you are used to always moving. But yoga is a good alternative since you are moving but also improving your mental fitness at the same time.

Christina and Tayla, thanks for the reply and feedback! You both mentioned relaxing and having time to meditate or use the exercise and how difficult it can be at times. I can relate, although I have really learned from this class and love it! So far it has made me recognize that I should relax and this class has showed me ways to do it.

Angulala, well said! They are both interchangeable However I did prefer the subtle mind exercise. I became disconnected once the loving kindness activity asked us to transfer the energy of a sick loved one. Both activities are thought provoking and relaxing. they both achieve mental fitness and focus
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do think the two exercises work interchangeably, I feel like the loving-kindness one was a little easier for me because I didn't really have to focus as much. I don't know why (maybe because i'm a super busy mother of 3) but i'm really easily distracted. My mind tends to wonder, or I fall asleep if I get a few minutes to listen to the lady talk and the sound of the waves. Thanks!
