By fostering "mental fitness", using different practices on a daily basis can make for an integral life.
The witnessing mind exercise allowed for me to personally calm my mind and quite all the "chatter" I have going on in my head. Our attention is continually pulled toward the chatter and by calming our thoughts we can allow for space and freedom from all the chatter.
The calm-abiding mind was really helpful in allowing for my thoughts and mind being still, to be tamed and subdued. By abiding in the stillness rather than the turmoil I found that I had less stress, I felt more peace, and loving-kindness towards others. I became present in the time (Dacher, 2006).
Using these practices can allow for me to slow-down on a daily basis and enjoy the wonderful life I have, and more importantly, enjoy my family with a still mind, body and spirit.

I am glad to hear that those exercises worked for you, i forgot about those two actually. They were at the beginning of the term. I havent had luck with most of the exercises, the one i felt helped me relax the most and i was able to fully experience it was the subtle mind practice. I felt at peace and my troubles and worries were gone during this exercise, it was so nice to experience that.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear that these exercises were a positive experience for you. Like Angela (above comment), I had forgotten quite a bit about them. I went back and read my blog posts about them, and realized that they were a little distracting for me. I hope that you will continue to incorporate these exercises into your daily life as you journey on;)
ReplyDeleteSami and Angela,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply and the feedback of my blog. As I have been taking this class, I have slowly learned to become more still, present and calm. I by nature am a "type A" personality and have to really become present and "check myself" to make sure I am not going a hundred miles an hour with work, errands, kids, school, etc. This class, and the exercises have really helped me chill out! Ha.

I enjoy reading your blog posts each week! I feel that you express exactly how I felt during each exercise, but conveyed your thoughts and feelings in a different way. I too need to use these type of exercises to calm my mind, therefore calming my body and spirit at the same time. I have truly recognized the necessity of these exercises and how their implementation in my life will benefit my overall health and wellness! I too, look forward to enjoying my family more with my newly found peace of mind!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found exercises that really helped you and allowed you to relax. I think all the practices throughout the course could help us in many different aspects of our lives. Some more than others. I'm glad you were able to recognize where you might need these practices and how they can benefit you!
ReplyDeleteYou make very valid points here. too often do we rush through life without much regard for anything other than what is bothering us directly. Stilling the mind is a very important step in dealing with the stress that tries to bring us down. I am humbled by what you said, and you are right. sometimes it truly helps to slow down and enjoy the little thing.
